Biodiversity series - 1
Biodiversity forms the backbone viable ecosystems on which we depend on for basic necessities, security and health.
Biodiversity boosts ecosystem productivity where each species no matter how small, all have an important role to play. All species are connected in some way or another. Forests provide homes for animals, animals eat plants, when the animals die they get decomposed by fungi and add nutrients to the soil, the healthy soil that plants need to grow. With less biodiversity, these connections can weaken and sometimes break harming many all species in the ecosystem.
Healthy ecosystems clean our water, purify are air, maintain the soil, regulate the climate, recycle nutrients and provide us with food. Biodiversity is the key indicator of a healthy ecosystem.
With more plants, trees and animals the soil improves and becomes stronger ~ less prone to erosion, drought and flooding, loss of valuable species and changes in the climate.
Our never ending need for energy/raw materials leads to the destruction of natural habitats. It also adds to the already high pollution levels. Over exploitation of natural resources, introducing exotic species, fragmentation of habitats........ all this because off because we use up nature much faster than it can be replenished. It is now or never, before it is too late we should take action. An action that saves the world, the biodiversity. An action that saves us !

Well said. Nature has to be handled and nurtured with. Otherwise there are and shall continue to be adverse repurcussions.
