It's an unpleasant morning, first my alarm didn't go off, which made me think I was late for online school, so I got ready in a few minutes and quickly gobbled down my breakfast only to realize that today was a holiday! So I sat and sulked for a few minutes with a stomachache the breakfast (that I ate so quickly) gave me. Then I remembered I had an online open house at school today and, well u can guess, I missed the time slot allotted to me. So there was me, waiting for the rest of the 42 children in class to finish before I could go. Just Great. It must be the case of the Mondays!
I decide to go make a fresh glass of lemonade to brighten up my day. While doing so, I hear the doorbell ring. It was the washerman who had come to get his pay. As i opened the door, the washerman nodded and started rubbed his forefinger and thumb together expressing that he wanted money. I nodded and gave him the money that was kept aside for him. He took the money from my hand and flashed a smile at me, I smiled back. Suddenly, the day didn't seem so bad. i caught myself smiling again later that day multiple times, while doing my homework, while exercising and even while washing my hands. I flashed a smile towards everyone i saw and they all smiled back.
It felt as though I was the one making everyone happy, and crazy enough as it is, I was!
Smiling is contagious! When you smile, the world smiles back.
Scientists and spiritual teachers alike agree that the simple act of smiling can transform you and lift the mood of everyone around you. Smiling makes you happy, it makes you appear more attractive to others and it can even lengthen your life. So before you keep reading, slap on a nice genuine smile on your face. You can thank me later :)
What Happens When You Smile?
- Each time you smile, you have a good little party inside your brain. Smiling releases neurotransmitters that benefit your health and make you happy.
- When you smile, your brain releases tiny molecules called neuropeptides to help fight off stress.
- Then, other neurotransmitters like dopamine, serotonin and endorphins come into play too.
- The endorphins act like a mild pain reliever, whereas the serotonin is an antidepressant.
